Wilfred will serve in a four-month detail role as the forest works to get a permanent position backfilled

Bishop, Calif., October 26, 2024 Inyo National Forest announces its new acting District Ranger for Mount Whitney, Wilfred Nabahe for the next four months. Effective October 20, 2024 through February, 2025, Wilfred replaces previous acting district ranger Aaron Grove due to unforeseen circumstances. Wilfred is currently the permanent tribal relations program manager at the Inyo National Forest and has been since May 2023.

With nearly twenty years of environmental and land management experience in both California, Nevada, and Arizona, and as a member of the Lone Paiute-Shoshone Tribe, Wilfred is looking forward to serving the people and public lands within the Ranger District he originally is from.

“I look forward to working in this new temporary capacity as the District Ranger for Mt. Whitney,” he said. “It is my goal to further improve managing these lands and make the right decisions for what challenges this district faces during my time here.”

Inyo National Forest is working to temporarily fill behind Wilfred’s tribal relations position, while also working to permanently hire a Mt. Whitney District Ranger. The job announcement will be posted on USAJobs.gov from October 28 – November 1, 2024, however it is only open to current forest service employees.
