NEW RESOURCE AVAILABLE FOR SPECIAL DISTRICTS
INDEPENDENCE – Inyo County Clerk-Recorder-Registrar of Voters Danielle Sexton unveiled this week a new online resource for Inyo County’s dozens of special districts.
With assistance from the Information Services Department, Sexton created a page on the Inyo County website dedicated to helping special districts find critical information and contacts. The idea sprang from Sexton’s personal experiences dealing with special districts that sometimes struggle in the absence of professional guidance.
“Inyo County’s independent special districts provide essential local services and operate through the dedication of community members,” she said. “These districts do not have a centralized governing body to provide compliance oversight or guidance. As a result, boards often face challenges in navigating statutory requirements and best practices. It is my hope and intention that this page will help bridge that gap.”
The page consolidates key compliance information and practical guidance in one accessible location. Resource topics include:
- Brown Act Compliance
- Political Reform Act of 1974, including FPPC guidance and Conflict of Interest (COI) codes
- Agency Resources & Directories
- District Boundary Change Procedures
- Board Member Transition Steps
- Local District Election Resources
- Required Records for Special District Boards
- Summary of Relevant California Laws and Regulations
It should be noted that none of the information provided constitutes legal advice.
The page can be found at Special Districts Resources | Inyo County California or by visiting www.inyocounty.us and navigating to the “Government” tab and then the “Resources” dropdown menu. For more information, call (760) 878-0224.
