Spirit of Mammoth Award 2025

The Spirit of Mammoth Award is given each year by the outgoing Mayor of the Mammoth Lakes Town Council. It recognizes an individual, group or organization that the Mayor feels embodies the Mammoth Lakes’ way of life and has an impact on the community. This year, outgoing Mayor Chris Bubser awarded longtime local musicians Rebecca Hang and Brian Schuldt. Rebecca and Brian started Chamber Music Unbound when they came to Mammoth Lakes 27 years ago and have been bringing world-class musicians to town to share their talents with the community ever since. Additionally, they have helped countless local children discover their musical talents and confidence through their music education programs.

Plastic Water Bottle Ban

Our drinking water is sourced right here in Mammoth Lakes, and a new sustainability effort is tapping into this delicious resource while reducing litter and cutting down on waste. Beginning January 1, 2026, businesses and individuals are prevented from selling or distributing single-use plastic water bottles less than or equal to 500 ml in the Town of Mammoth Lakes. This means single-use plastic water bottles of this size will no longer be available for purchase anywhere in town. Water in plastic containers greater than 500 ml will still be available for purchase, as well as alternatively packaged water, such as in cans, boxes, or aluminum bottles. By refilling your water bottle straight from the tap, you can help reduce plastic waste and protect the watershed.
