Mono County Enters Stage 1 Fire Restrictions: Stay Safe, Get Ready: Due to rising summer temperatures and dry vegetation, Mono County has officially entered Stage 1 Seasonal Fire Restrictions across all public and private lands. These strict safety measures prohibit dispersed campfires, smoking outside cleared areas, fireworks, and target shooting on BLM lands to prevent human-caused wildfires. For more details on these fire restrictions please click here. To stay safe and informed throughout peak fire season, emergency officials urge all residents and visitors to register for real-time emergency alerts at ready.mono.ca.gov. Please report restriction violations to the Sheriff’s non-emergency line at (760) 932-7549 ext. 7, and always dial 911 immediately if you see active smoke or fire.

Air Curtain Burner Tour: Following the August 11 Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board will tour Mono County’s new Air Curtain Burner at the Pumice Valley Landfill. The Air Curtain Burner provides an efficient and environmentally responsible method of reducing woody vegetation and green waste generated through wildfire mitigation, defensible space, and other vegetation management activities. The project supports the County’s wildfire resilience efforts by providing local capacity to safely dispose of woody biomass while reducing open pile burning and associated smoke impacts. The tour will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Pumice Valley Landfill (APN 021-130-045-000), located approximately 5 miles east of U.S. Highway 395 on State Route 120 East.
