Inyo County Celebrates Families with August LIFE Night & Community Baby Shower

Bishop, CA Inyo County Health & Human Services – Public Health and Prevention (PHPV) proudly hosted a  special LIFE Night on August 7th in celebration of National Breastfeeding Month. The event combined regular  monthly LIFE Night activities with a Community Baby Shower, bringing together over 50 participants and  distributing more than 400 gifts to new and expectant mothers and families.

The evening was a true collaboration, with participation from Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), Maternal  Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH), First 5 Inyo County, Oral Health, California Home Visiting Program  (CHVP), and Public Health. Staff was also appreciative to have two volunteer lactation consultants, Grace  Voorheis, RD from Eastern Sierra Nutrition and Lactation, and Laura Partridge, RN from L.N.C. who generously  provided on-site breastfeeding education, support, and encouragement to attendees. Other support came  from HHS Administration and the HHS Behavioral Health division.

“This event was a beautiful example of what can happen when programs and people come together to serve  our community,” said HHS Prevention Program Manager Vanessa Bigham, who spearheaded the event. “We  were able to celebrate families, provide important resources, education, and connect people with ongoing  support—and I’m incredibly grateful to our team and staff, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make it  all possible.”

From educational resources to practical gifts for babies and parents, the August LIFE Night & Community Baby  Shower provided much-needed services in a welcoming and supportive environment. The response from  attendees underscored the importance of offering spaces where families can find help, ask questions, and  connect with others.
