Town Council Meeting Items – March 6

  • The Police Chief will introduce Sergeant Wes Hoskin to Council who will be sworn in by the Town Clerk.
  • Town Council will hold a joint workshop with the Parks and Recreation Commission.
  • Town Council will consider awarding a contract for SHARP Trailhead facilities.
  • Town staff will present updates to Title 3 and 5 of the Town’s Municipal Code to implement a “Certified Property Program” that will enhance the regulatory structure of short-term rentals (STR’s). The Ordinance implementing the changes is recommended for introduction with final action on March 20, effective April 22, 2024.
  • Town Council will consider the introduction of an Ordinance to lift the Short-Term Rental (STR) moratorium. If approved, it will be effective April 22, 2024.

Town Submits EDA Grant 

  • The Town is submitting an Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to support three projects:
    • Funding to support a regional bioenergy plant to utilize biomass from forest fuels reduction ($21.9M)
    • The construction of a new pedestrian bridge/path connection from parking/hotels to The Village ($2.4M)
    • Funding support for a local childcare center project adjacent to the Edison Theatre ($1M)

 

Blizzard Warning in Effect for Mammoth Lakes 

  • NWS Reno has issued a Blizzard Warning in effect from 4pm Thursday (2/29) to 10am Sunday (3/3) for Mono County and the Town of Mammoth Lakes.
  • Blizzard conditions are likely from Friday night through Saturday. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 feet for communities along Highway 395 with 3 to 6 feet along the Sierra crest. Winds gusting as high as 75 mph in the lower elevations and above 110 mph over Sierra ridges.
  • Be prepared for a highly impactful storm across the Sierra with waves of very heavy snow, strong winds, and blizzard conditions from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning with near zero visibility in blowing snow. Travel will be extremely dangerous, if not impossible. Plan on prolonged travel disruptions.
  • Call 800-427-ROAD for current chain control restrictions or road conditions, listen to KMMT 106.5, Sierra Wave 92.5 or KIBS 100.7 FM, look for chain control signs throughout town or click here for a list of Taxi & Shuttle services, and other Snowsmart tips.
  • The Mammoth Lakes Police Department is reminding citizens and visitors that from November 1 through April 30, no parking is allowed along all town streets unless otherwise noted.

  • The Mammoth Film Festival begins Thursday, February 29 and wraps up on Monday, March 4. Visit the event website for tickets, badges and the international film screening schedule.
  • A FREE screening of The Paradise Paradox, a Bodie Miller film about the mental health crisis affecting America’s mountain towns, will be showing at the Welcome Center Theatre at 6:00pm on Thursday, February 29.
  • Sierra Classic Theatre presents “The Minutes” by Tracy Letts. This scathing new comedy about small-town politics and real-world power is playing in the Town Council Chambers (Suite Z), from March 15-30, 2024. Purchase your tickets online.
  • SAVE THE DATE – The Summer Recreation Expo will be at LA Kings Ice at Mammoth Lakes on Monday, April 1. In-person Summer Camp registration and free ice skating is scheduled from 5:00 -7:00pm.
