Town Council Meeting Agenda Items – May 1

  • The Police Chief will introduce, and the Town Clerk will swear in new Police Officer Brett Wang.
  • The Town Council will consider the approval of a proclamation declaring May 5-11, 2024 as “Public Service Recognition Week.”
  • Town Council will receive a presentation from Placemate on the Lease to Locals Program.
  • Town Council will provide direction and general comments on the Inyo National Forest and Bureau of Land Management, Bishop Field Office (as applicable) OHV Grants.
  • Staff is requesting the Town Council provide direction on the preliminary budget (Department Requested) that will assist staff in preparing the next phase of the FY2024/25 budget. Staff will use direction and additional research to bring a balanced FY2024/25 Tentative Budget to the Town Council in June for consideration.

Closure of Canyon Boulevard for Utility Work Begins April 29

  • The Limelight Hotel contractor, the Penta Group, has permission from the Town to close Canyon Boulevard from Lake Mary Road to Hillside Drive to do utility work across the road. The closure will be in effect from Monday, April 29 through Friday, May 3, 2024. 
  • The road will not reopen at night as there will be significant trenching work. Detours and traffic control will be in place around Canyon Boulevard. The Mammoth Lakes Police Department will be monitoring traffic in and around the area. Review the detour and traffic control map of the area.
  • The Town appreciates the community’s understanding and patience during this scheduled infrastructure work.

 

Main Street Landscaping Phase 1 Construction Underway

  • The Contractor will be working for the next three months on irrigation improvements and installation of native landscaping and plants.
  • Residents and visitors should expect minimal impacts to parking areas along the Frontage Road and slight detours along the Main Street sidewalks.

 

Save the Date – FREE Waste Collection Day, May 4

  • Mark your calendars for the FREE green waste, electronic waste and household hazardous waste (HHW) collection day event (8am-3pm) at the Mammoth Disposal Transfer Station, located at 59 Commerce Drive.
  • All accepted materials will be recycled at no charge for all Town of Mammoth Lakes residents on Saturday, May 4 ONLY.

“Fishmas” – Opening Day of Regular Fishing Season this Saturday!

  • Eastern Sierra locals and visitors are gearing up for “Fishmas,” the official start to the regular fishing season this Saturday, April 27, 2024. Lakes, streams, and reservoirs will be at very healthy levels, and most will be ice-free following a strong winter and mild spring.
  • Throughout the regular season, anglers are encouraged to join the effort to keep Eastern Sierra fisheries healthy and sustainable by practicing “catch and release” – keeping only the fish they need and releasing the rest to reproduce and grow.
  • For more information about fishing regulations, anglers should visit the CDFW website, bookmark the regulation map, visit MonoCounty.org or Mammoth Lakes Tourism to learn more about fishing in Mono County, as well as other things to do and see, lodging, and much more.

 

New Sites Added to Concessionaire Permit, including June Lake Beach starting April 26

  • Seven recreation sites on Inyo National Forest will now be run by a concessionaire under Vista Recreation’s permit, starting Friday, April 26, 2024. 
  • June Lake Beach will have a new $10 day use fee (Parking lot opens for vehicles at 8:00am) with the remaining six sites’ fees unchanged.
  • After numerous safety concerns at June Lake Beach regarding illegal parking, emergency vehicle access and increased public use, the new fee will help the Forest and Vista Recreation in staffing, operations and maintenance of June Lake Beach facilities, such as cleaning toilets and removing trash.
  • A $50 seasonal pass and the $10 day use fee can be purchased on-site at the entrance kiosk. Campers nearby who walk in will not be charged the new day use fee. Parking lot hours will vary according to peak season days.
