GRIFFITHS DEPARTING FOR STATE POSTĀ

Inyo County Second District Supervisor Jeff Griffiths announced today that he has been appointed the InterimĀ  Chief Executive Officer for the California State Association of Counties (CSAC), effective Monday, November 9. Taking on the interim role will mean he is resigning from the Board of Supervisors effective Sunday, NovemberĀ  8.

With two years left in Griffiths’ term, the Governor will be expected to make an appointment to fill the vacancyĀ  until the seat comes up again for election.

ā€œThis was not an easy decision, as I’ve invested the last 14 years in serving the residents of Inyo County andĀ  have been honored to be a part of historic achievements and in simply making sure our constituents’ needsĀ  are met,ā€ said Griffiths. ā€œI will forever cherish the memories I’ve made and the partnerships and relationshipsĀ  I’ve been lucky to cultivate.ā€

The CSAC CEO post is an essential and high-profile one – overseeing an organization representing a wide varietyĀ  of jurisdictions as it strives to empowering county leaders to better serve their communities, advocates forĀ  smart policies and funding at the state and federal levels, and highlights the important work counties do everyĀ  day. Its policy areas include Administration of Justice, Agriculture, Environment, & Natural Resources,Ā  Government Finance and Administration, Health & Human Services, Housing, Land Use, & Transportation, andĀ  the State Budget. Griffiths currently serves as Immediate Past President – having served as President in 2025Ā after two years as an officer in the organization – and in total has represented Inyo County on the CSAC BoardĀ  for 14 years.

ā€œWe are pleased to officially welcome Inyo County Supervisor Jeff Griffiths as interim chief executive officer … Jeff brings steady leadership, a deep knowledge of county government, and strong relationships acrossĀ  California’s 58 diverse counties,ā€ CSAC President Susan Ellenberg said. ā€œJeff has a heart for service and a long standing commitment to local communities. He has represented the Eastern Sierra on the Inyo County BoardĀ  of Supervisors since 2013, following service on the Bishop City Council and the First 5 Commission … As interimĀ  CEO, Griffiths will oversee day-to-day operations, continue to advance CSAC’s priorities and uphold its missionĀ  to serve California’s counties, advocate effectively on their behalf with the state and federal governments, andĀ  communicate the value of the work counties do every day.ā€

The CSAC Executive Committee plans to begin the search for a permanent CEO in the months ahead.

Of his appointment, Griffiths said: ā€œI am humbled to serve the county family that has given so much to me, andĀ  I’m grateful to the board, staff and our partners for their confidence. Counties deliver the services CaliforniansĀ  count on every day, and CSAC remains the chief advocacy voice for all 58 counties. My focus is simple: support the dedicated staff who have kept this storied association true to its mission, listen to our members, and keepĀ  the work for counties moving forward.ā€
