Pack Fire Advisory: Debris & Ash Safety Reminder

Mono County Environmental Health is urging residents to use caution around debris and ash from the Pack Fire. Burned materials may contain toxic substances, and improper handling can pose serious health risks.

Please DO NOT remove burned debris from your property at this time. A potential state-led debris removal program is forthcoming, and early removal could make you ineligible to participate.

Residents with private wells should also plan to disinfect and test their water before use.

Stay safe, stay informed, and visit READY Mono for ongoing updates:

For questions, please contact Environmental Health at 760-924-1830.

November 16, 9:45 PM:

From CAL FIRE:

Firefighters and hand crews spent today working in snowy conditions across the Pack Fire area, continuing suppression repair and supporting recovery efforts in Mono County.

Snow and wildfire may seem like an unusual combination, but it’s actually common in the Eastern Sierra. Early winter storms can arrive while deep heat remains in heavy fuels like logs, stumps, and ground layers. These materials can stay warm and smolder beneath snow, even in cold weather.

Crews focused on strengthening containment lines, addressing areas of lingering heat, and making fire-impacted terrain safe for the community as winter weather settles in.

More updates to follow as work continues.

PACK FIRE – INCIDENT UPDATE (November 16, 2025, 7:00 AM)

Location: McGee Creek Road, west of Highway 395 near Crowley Lake

Acres: 3,000

Containment: 56 percent

Unified Command: CAL FIRE, Mono County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Forest Service – Inyo National Forest, Bureau of Land Management

Current Situation

Firefighters continue strengthening direct control lines, conducting mop-up within impacted communities, and addressing threats to critical infrastructure. Suppression repair teams are actively preparing for incoming weather to reduce potential post-fire impacts.

Damage Inspection Teams have completed assessments, and utility companies continue evaluating and repairing affected infrastructure.

Steep terrain and ongoing weather conditions, including cloud cover and precipitation, limit the safe use of aircraft and make perimeter verification challenging.

Weather (Next 24 Hours)Cool temperatures, cloud cover, and periods of precipitation are expected to continue. These conditions will keep fire activity low but may slow access, mapping, and repair operations.

Outlook for Today

  • Crews will reinforce and hold existing control lines.
  • Mop-up and suppression repair will continue where conditions allow.
  • Utility companies will remain active in the area.
  • Aviation use will remain limited due to weather.
