Quick First Look at Changes to Big Pine Transfer Station

Inyo County is “looking at scheduling” at the Big Pine Transfer Station, an operation that costs $80,000 a year to operate. That was the message from Cap Aubry, assistant director of Public Works, to Big Pine residents at Tuesday’s community update session hosted by Supervisor Jen Roeser. Big Pine is not alone; the department is also looking at the Lone Pine Transfer Station.

With curbside service now available, the two transfer stations are no longer the only garbage option in the two communities.

Aubry offered an insight into current waste issues: the proliferation of tumbleweeds, a product of a wet winter. Without burn permits, the only alternative is sending the weeds to area dumps.
