9th Annual Owens River Clean Up Another Big Success
The 9th Annual Owens River Clean Up hosted by California Waterfowl Association was another big success. Clear skies and warm weather brought out dozens and dozens of volunteers from far and near to help clean up the Owens Valley. It was a great morning of networking.
Present groups included Valley Outdoors, California Waterfowl Association, Trout Unlimited, Eastern Sierra Land Trust, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Sierra Refuge, Systems Process People, Caltrout, and US Forest Service.
Some great swag prizes were raffled off to volunteers. Everything from guide trips from Eastern Sierra Sportfishing and David Downs to Orvis fly rods to fly boxes to books and gift cards to local shops.
Luong Tam of Tanuki Tenkara was present teaching interested volunteers about tenkara fishing.
The event drew fly fishing club members from Long Beach Casting Club, Hi Desert Fly Fishers, Aguabonita Fly Fishers, Sepse Fly Fishers, and Pasadena Casting Club. Locals from Mammoth, Bishop, and Big Pine showed up.
Some Bishop Broncos came with family members. A handful of local guides made it to the event. The volunteers enjoyed coffee from Starbucks and baked goods from Great Basin Bakery in the morning and Subway sandwiches at noon.
Event organizer Chris Leonard wants to thank everyone who helped out. Next year’s 10th annual event will likely be the same weekend next year. Info will be made known when a date is secured.
