Labor Day Weekend in Mono County – Important Updates

Protect Our Waters

Golden mussels (and other invasive species) are a serious threat. Our Eastern Sierra waterways are highly connected—if mussels enter one lake, they can quickly spread. Golden mussels clog water systems, damage infrastructure, harm fisheries, and threaten both utilities and recreation.

For this reason, two Watercraft Inspection and Decontamination (WID) Stations will be open this weekend:

Mono Basin Visitor Center (Lee Vining) and Diaz Lake (just south of Lone Pine)

Friday, Aug 29 – Monday, Sept 1

7am–5pm

Stop at a WID station before launching – and every time you switch lakes.

And always remember to Clean, Drain, Dry your watercraft and gear.

Yosemite National Park – Weekend Access

Vehicle reservations are required this weekend only (Aug 30–Sept 1, 6am–2pm). After that, no reservations needed for the rest of the year. Book at Recreation.gov.

Fire Safety

Fire restrictions are in effect:

  • No campfires, charcoal, or stove fires except in designated developed campgrounds.
  • No smoking except inside a vehicle/building, in a designated site, or in a cleared area at least 3 feet wide.

Please camp like a pro and help prevent wildfires.

Air Quality

Some smoke from the Garnet Fire (Fresno County) may affect the Eastern Sierra at times. Check current conditions: gbuapcd.org

Need Help? Stop by a Visitor Center or find maps and guides online at MonoCounty.org.

Have a safe and happy Labor Day weekend!
