unnamed2 2

The Town in partnership with Mammoth Disposal, Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce, and Volunteer Eastern Sierra (VES) has scheduled a Defensible Space and Community Clean-Up event on Friday, May 13 & Saturday, May 14. Take pride in our Town by volunteering on Saturday, May 14 to beautify our streets, parks, trails and public spaces. Drop by Footloose Sports on May 14 from 9:00am-12:00pm to collect complimentary trash bags, a community clean-up map, and recycling information along with helpful clean-up tips.

Protect your property from wildfires by creating and maintaining defensible space around your home on May 13 & 14. The defensible space zones start from the building, structures, and decks, up to 100 feet or the property line. You can promote a healthy defensible space zone by removing ground litter and trimming up trees to 15 feet. Pick up your FREE bags NOW from the Town of Mammoth Lakes Offices or at Footloose Sports on Saturday, May 14. Click here for additional information or to volunteer.

Micro-Mobility Bird Scooters Coming to Mammoth Lakes!

unnamed4 2

Bird will be deploying their eco-friendly electric scooters in Mammoth Lakes prior to Memorial Day Weekend. The start-up phase of this project involves Bird delivering 50 electric scooters to the Town as part of a pilot program. The e-scooters can be used to replace gas-powered car trips when going to the store, meeting up with friends, exploring the community and taking many other daily trips. Bird aims to make towns and cities more livable by reducing car trips, traffic and carbon emissions. The company’s scooters, developed by an in-house team of leading engineering and vehicle design experts, offer residents or visitors without cars another transportation option.

Scooters are permitted on paths and trails that are currently authorized for e-bikes; however, they are limited to specific areas throughout town (not permitted in Lakes Basin), and have built in speed limits, slow zones, no riding zones, and preferred parking areas. Bird is partnering with a local fleet manager who will be responsible for staging the scooters around Town, responding to feedback submitted through the free Bird app, maintenance and repairs, and the regular rebalancing of scooters. Scooter riders need to be 18 years or older, have a valid driver’s license and are recommended to wear a helmet. Bird scooters cost $1 to unlock and a per minute fee, which can be found in the app, thereafter. All you need to rent one is your smartphone and a credit card. Click on the interactive map to view these high-use areas. “We have always had a leash law, typical of most cities in our state,” stated Chief Davis. “The goal of enforcement is to gain compliance. Enforcement can be as simple as a friendly warning or may escalate to a citation, just like all the other laws we enforce.” Officers will be citing owners with dogs off leash at Shady Rest Park and throughout Town. Read More…

Flying Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) or Drones in Mammoth Lakes

unnamed20

Whether you’re a new drone pilot or have years of experience, rules and safety tips exist to help you fly safely in the national airspace. Visit the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Flying Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) website to determine which type of drone user you are and what rules and regulations apply to your specific situation and region. Anyone flying a drone is responsible for flying within FAA guidelines and regulations. That means it is up to you as a drone pilot to know the Rules of the Sky, and where it is and is not safe to fly. In most situations, its legal to fly a drone in areas within and around the Town of Mammoth Lakes municipal boundary. Click here to view a flight map that shows “no fly zones” in red and “ceiling height restriction” on flying drones in gray along with FAA Rules and Regulations for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).
