Mammoth Lakes Basin now OPEN!

The Lakes Basin Road opened for the 2022 season on Friday, May 27, with Eastern Sierra Transit shuttle service resuming on May 28. All multi-use paths and campgrounds are now OPEN, with the exception of Pine City due to hazard tree abatement. While the road and trails are OPEN, please be aware that employees may still be working in the area, placing dumpsters, replacing portable restrooms, removing hazard trees and chlorinating water systems at Forest Service campgrounds.

Fish stocking also took place on May 27, with 2,800 pounds of trophy trout added to Twin Lakes 1, Twin Lakes 2, Lake Mary and Lake Mamie. Get your fish on Mammoth Lakes!

We Have Summer Camp Spots Available – Register Now!

Staff have been working hard to increase inventory and reduce waitlists. We now have availability in the following camps:

Crafters Art Camp: This camp is now open to 4th graders and older. It is an art/adventure hybrid camp with an emphasis on creating keepsake crafts such as lip balm, journal binding, flower pots, etc.  Crafters Art Camp Registration

Counselor in Training (CIT): The counselor in training camp is our only program designed for High School age students. Join us in an exciting week of adventures as we simultaneously work on developing leadership skills. If you complete this camp, you will be eligible to volunteer with us or even get a summer job! Counselor in Training Registration

Sports Camp: Only a few spaces left in this non-stop sports-packed camp for grades 2 – 5. Campers sample soccer, basketball, and volleyball to kickball, water polo, and even a track and field day. This camp is perfect for your athletic enthusiast! Sports Camp Registration

Mountain Bike, Nature Camp and Wave Rave: We only have a couple spots left in each of these camps.  This is a unique opportunity to register for one of our stellar camps if you are a bit late to the game. Click here to register!

Adult Softball Begins June 13

Get your team together and join our Coed or Men’s Slow Pitch Softball League this summer. All abilities welcome! League play begins June 13 at Shady Rest Park. Whitmore Pool is NOW OPEN!

The Whitmore Pool is open for lap swim and Mammoth Lakes Swim Team practice. Lap swim times are as follows: AM Lap Swim (Monday-Friday 6:30-8:30am) & PM Lap Swim (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) 5:30-7:30pm. Please visit the Whitmore Pool website, follow us on Facebook or call the Parks and Recreation Department at (760) 965-3690 for the complete summer schedule, fees and lesson programs. Park, Facilities and Trails Update

Community Recreation Center (CRC) Update

Work is underway on the site to build the Sprung structure. Look for the weekly #crcupdate on the Town’s Facebook pageTemporary park closure: For the duration of construction for the new Community Recreation Center, the Mammoth Creek Park playground, restrooms and parking lot will be CLOSED to the public. The Town will maintain public restrooms on the eastside of Mammoth Creek Park accessible from the multi-use path.  We invite you to enjoy one of our many playgrounds at Trails End Park, Shady Rest Park and the Community Center. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we work towards enhancing our community recreation amenities.

Summer of Stewardship: Trail Days 2022

The Town of Mammoth Lakes and Inyo National Forest are teaming up for the 13th season of Trails Days on the Mammoth Lakes Trail System. Sign up for volunteer shifts one week in advance to receive detailed instructions on location and activity. This summer we’ll be working in the Sherwins area, finishing new trails in the Lakes Basin, and adding water-centric opportunities to our Host Program! All ages and ability levels are welcome. Children must be supervised by a parent or guardian, and all volunteers must sign a liability waiver prior to beginning work. We will provide all necessary tools and specialized safety gear, but ask participants to arrive with personal protective equipment (masks, gloves, sunglasses) and proper clothing for your assignment. Water Host must provide their own watercraft. And please don’t forget your sunscreen, hat, bug spray, or water bottle.

While enjoying beautiful Shady Rest Park or the sensational views at the Sherwins Trailhead, please leash your dog and leave no trace! Trash bins are provided, along with complimentary doggie bags so please keep your dog on a leash, pick up your dogs waste AND put it in the trash bin. It is unlawful for any dog owner to allow their dog to run at large within the Town of Mammoth Lakes Municipal Boundary. All dogs shall be kept securely fastened by a chain, rope, or leash unless securely confined within private property legally controlled by the owner of the dog. We encourage responsible dog ownership while visiting these high-use areas by adhering to the Town Municipal Code below. Trashy Thursdays

Trashy Thursdays are back for a second year, brought to you by MLT, MMSA, TOML/MLTS and Waste Connections. Join us every Thursday from June 2 – September 29 from 5pm-6pm at various locations. Two $50 gift cards will be raffled off each week for adult volunteers, with giveaways for any children participating.

Zumba Classes

Zumba classes are back at the Mammoth Lakes Community Center every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday night, from 7-8pm. Join Coach Denisse, and get you burn and dance on at the same time! Only $10 per class.

Makerspace and MonoBookBox Program

The library continues to offer free all-ages seasonal Makerspace Kits and Activity Zines for pick up at the front desk, along with Storytime To Go bags for young families at Mammoth Lakes Library. School age kids can still sign up for a few remaining slots in our winter MonoBookBox Program and high school age teens can participate in our Evolution of Storytelling Project  which includes free journaling boxes and zine-making kits and this season adds in-house use of iPads for digital story creation and recording equipment for oral history/podcast style storytelling.  Adults can take advantage of our Drop-In Sewing Machine Time at the 2nd floor Makerspace every Wednesday from 2:30-4:30pm
