Help Keep Our Kids Safe and Our Parks Clean!

For this summer camp season, Parks and Recreation is staging all of their camps at Shady Rest Park. A list of camps/dates/times can be found online. Parks and Recreation have previously utilized the Mammoth RecZone for staging summer camps, so this is a big change for the department and the many parents who will be dropping-off and collecting their children from the park. Please help us keep our kids safe this summer at Shady Rest Park by observing the following:

  • Obey all speed signs
  • Slow down in the parking lot
  • Watch for children on bicycles, skateboards, scooters, etc.
  • Keep your dog on a leash
  • Pick-up and dispose of your dog’s waste

Drone Safety Day – June 18

In the spirit of Drone Safety Day we would like to encourage current and potential drone enthusiasts to “Fly RIGHT” by following FAA rules and regulations. The FAA says that when you’re flying right, you’ve made an effort to:

  • Register your drone — Visit the FAA DroneZone
  • Interact with others — Connect with the drone flying community
  • Gain knowledge — Learn the rules at FAA.gov/uas
  • Have a safety plan — Use the B4UFLY app
  • TRUST and Train — Take the safety test and get flying

In addition to the FAA rules and regulations, there are local procedures for flying within 5 miles of Mammoth Yosemite Airport. Everyone must fill out an application and receive approval from airport management prior to operate a drone within 5 miles of Mammoth Yosemite Airport. We appreciate everyone’s efforts to follow the rules and promote a safe airspace! Click here to learn more about flying drones in Mammoth Lakes.
