Mammoth Lakes LogoMono County Health Officer Approves MUSD Facilities Reopening on January 24

On January 21, Caryn K. Slack, Mono County Health Officer rescinded the Order closing Mammoth Unified School District facilities to in-person instruction. Schools will resume in-person classroom schedules on Monday, January 24, 2022. The closure Order was rescinded as school faculty recovered from high rates of COVID-19 enabling schools to be properly staffed for all students to access safe, in-person instruction. Reported COVID-19 cases in Mono County have declined over the past week after hitting a high of 436 the week ending January 8. Positivity rates are declining as well though still high at 40%. Mammoth Hospital remains in Green Status – able to care for any patient needing admission. Read the January 21, 2022 Public Health Order and Press Release.

Town Council and Mammoth Lakes Tourism Board to Meet on January 26

Town Council met on January 19 in advance of the joint meeting scheduled on January 26, to review staff recommendations for marketing focus and funding for Mammoth Lakes Tourism (MLT) for fiscal year 2022-23. Areas for discussion include the following strategic areas of focus: Education (visitor and resident), re-energize destination visitation, local community market focus, and the development of success measurements (outside of traditional marketing measures). Read the January 26, 2022 Meeting Agenda

The Parcel Update

On January 19, Town Council received a year end update on the status of The Parcel Affordable Housing Project. The report can be accessed here.  Phase 1 includes 80 affordable units and 1 manager’s unit. Construction is scheduled to resume this spring. We expect to receive notification shortly from CA Housing and Community Development (HCD) regarding our $47M Housing Accelerator funding application. Read the January 19, 2022 Staff Report

Inyo National Forest Welcomes New District Ranger

The Inyo National Forest welcomes Winfred (Fred) Wong as the new Mammoth Lakes District Ranger. Fred comes from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) as the Assistant Field Manager at the BLM California Ukiah Field Office. Read the entire Inyo National Forest Press Release. Fred has more than 20 years of federal service with both BLM and the Forest Service. Parks and Recreation Update

Parks and Recreation is challenging the community to 100-miles this winter. Register for the Winter Fitness Challenge and get outside and start logging those skiing, snowboarding, skating, walking, biking, or other miles.
