Laws Celebrates National Book Day

LAWS CELEBRATES NATIONAL BOOK DAY

Laws is honoring National Book Day Saturday, November 18th with several  special opportunities worth a visit. Bring your lunch, your family, your leashed fur  baby and join us on this special day to appreciate books: books for pleasure,  books for gifts, or books for education. Besides all these reasons to celebrate  books, they give us opportunities for spending quality time with the quality  people in our lives, whether through a book club, or a child’s bedtime story.

Americans love books! We have National Book Day (November), National  Literacy Month (September) National Reading Month (March), and National  Library Month (April). When the town of Laws was a thriving railroad hub, long  before audio books or digital books, its children learned to read from McGuffey  Readers, we still have a few. How surprised and delighted those children would  be to see the cornucopia of delightful children’s books on today’s library shelves  and bookstores. Inyo and Mono Counties are fortunate to still have that  increasingly rare thing: Independent Book Stores.

This Saturday at Laws, author and artist Christine Eyer will be on hand to sell and  autograph her brand-new publication: “ABCs for LOGOPHILES AND  PHILOTHERIANS”. Each page is wondrously illustrated with Chris’ original  watercolors depicting creatures from aardwolf to zokor. You will find Christine in  the gift shop/reception center. We are also offering docent talks in the Station  Agent’s House at 11:00 a.m. and the Bottle House at 12:30 p.m. to enhance  visitor experience of these two recently renovated Museum buildings. At 11:30,  the 1910 Northern Inyo Schoolhouse will host Children’s Story Hour, suitable for  children ages 4-8, especially those who love train. Come celebrate with us!
