It’s Going to Be a White Fishmas
It’s that time of year again! Fishing Opener in the Eastern Sierra is scheduled for April 29, but with the historic amount of snow we have received in the region, things might look a little bit different this year.
Waters in the Eastern Sierra will definitely be affected by the feet upon feet of snow that has fallen, whether that means creeks and streams are overflowing, or certain areas don’t melt out when they usually do.
Many local waters may not be open for Fishmas, simply because they are inaccessible. Please make sure to reach out directly to the location you are hoping to visit to confirm that they plan to be open when you arrive.
See you here soon!
This winter was a crazy one with relentless snowfall that broke the all-time record for snowfall at Mammoth Mountain. While that means that there may be some delays to the opening of certain waters in the Eastern Sierra this spring, it is a great boon for our water levels, which means fishing spots should be flowing late into the season.
Please always remember to leave no trace by cleaning up your fishing line, trash and anything else you bring with you. Pack it in, pack it out and leave this place better than you found it. Learn more about ways to recreate responsibly near water by clicking below.
