County Launches New Online Portal for Environmental Health Permits
INDEPENDENCE – The Inyo County Board of Supervisors is thrilled to announce that the Environmental Health department has successfully launched its permits on OpenGov, a cloud-based platform designed to streamline permitting, licensing, and code enforcement processes for municipalities and their constituents.
Requests for well, soil boring, and septic permits can now be made to Environmental Health online at its homepage on the Inyo County website: https://www.inyocounty.us/services/environmental-health or by using this link: https://countyofinyoca.portal.opengov.com/categories/1073. Paper permits are no longer accepted, however, staff is available to help with the new online process.
The new permitting system has been in the works for many months. Environmental Health is the first department to launch its permits; others, such as Building & Maintenance, Planning, and the Inyo County Film Commission, are expected to follow.
“This new online permitting system brings numerous benefits to the residents of Inyo County,” said Board Chair Scott Marcellin. “It will streamline the permit application process, making it faster and more efficient. The system provides 24/7 access, allowing residents to submit permit requests at their convenience without needing to visit the office in person – although that will always remain an option.”
Additionally, the system enhances transparency by enabling applicants to track the status of their permits in real-time. Residents will also benefit from having all correspondence with inspectors and departments in one centralized location, eliminating the need to search through multiple department pages for applications.
The Board credits the hard work of county departments, including Information Services and particularly Assistant Chief Information Officer Abhilash Itharaju, for this major step forward.
