Caltrans Seeking Public Comment on Ridgecrest/Inyokern Pavement Project
EASTERN KERN COUNTY — Caltrans District 9 is seeking public comment until Friday, April 26, on the proposed Ridgecrest/Inyokern Pavement Project. This$46.8 million project would rehabilitate approximately 24 lane miles of State Route 178 E from State Route 14 to the Kern/San Bernardino County line.
Other features of the project could include:
- Replacement and rehabilitation of culverts/drainage infrastructure
- Upgraded traffic signs, guardrail, and bridge rail to current standards
- Upgraded traffic management systems and roadside safety improvements
- Replacement of lighting systems
- Installation of Class II bicycle lanes as Complete Streets elements
- Installation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant infrastructure
Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2030.
The proposed project and environmental impact reports for the Ridgecrest/Inyokern Pavement Project are now available for public review. A hard copy is located at the Caltrans District 9 office, 500 South Main Street in Bishop, or at the Kern County Library, 131 E. Las Flores Avenue in Ridgecrest.

All public comments must be submitted in writing by 11:59 p.m. on April 26. Comments can be submitted in one of three ways:
