CAL FIRE EXPANDS EASTERN SIERRA WILDFIRE RESPONSE WITH NEW FIRE STATION
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is proud to announce the opening of a new fire station at Mammoth Yosemite Airport (MMH), strengthening wildfire response capabilities throughout Inyo and Mono counties and reinforcing the Department’s long-standing commitment to protecting the Eastern Sierra. The new station will serve as a strategic hub for personnel and equipment responsible for protecting over 606,683 acres of State Responsibility Area (SRA) across Inyo and Mono counties. Positioned in the heart of the Eastern Sierra, the facility will reduce response times to wildfires while enhancing coordination with local, state, and federal partners. The opening of the station represents the next chapter in CAL FIRE’s history within the Owens Valley. For more than 6 decades, CAL FIRE has maintained a presence in the region dedicated to protecting communities, watersheds, and natural landscapes throughout the Eastern Sierra. CAL FIRE extends its appreciation to Mammoth Yosemite Airport, the Town of Mammoth Lakes, Mono County, Inyo County, and partner agencies whose collaboration helped make this project possible.
RECORD 4th OF JULY PARADE CELEBRATES TOP FLOATS
A record 57 floats, thousands of spectators and America’s 250th Anniversary combined to make the 2026 Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce 4th of July Parade one of the biggest and best yet! The parade was led by Grand Marshal Deena Kastor, whose float set the tone for this year’s theme, Make It Mammoth. Go the Extra Mile. Cash prizes were expanded to include second and third places in the Float Competition thanks to parade sponsor High Country Lumber. Taking first place was the Mammoth Music Department, second place went to the Mono County and Inyo County Dems for its “We the People” float, honoring the Bill of Rights, with third place awarded to the Mammoth High School Cheerleaders and Youth Cheer Clinic. The Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce congratulates this year’s Float Competition winners and thanks everyone who helped bring the 2026 4th of July Parade to life.
