Shorty’s Speed Shop Reminds us of Our Love of Automobiles This Past Weekend with The Owens Valley Cruisers!

Cars have always held a special piece of America’s heart. It’s not as strong as it use to be with today’s cars looking pretty much exactly the same and everyone using them for nothing more than simple point A to B transportation – but the love of cars is definitely still alive. This event is normally a much smaller gathering of some of the members of the local Owens Valley Cruisers but this Saturday was special. There was a great showing of today’s unique car culture. Everything from the classic 1932 “Duce” Ford, 1959 GMC 100 Stepside truck, and a 1969 Camaro to  two J100 series Land Cruizers, a brand new Civic Type R, a swath of Subarus, and an all-electric 2022 Mini Cooper rolled into the parking lot near Starbucks and Hing’s Donuts. Some people came from as far as Ridgecrest to hang out, look at cars, and drink coffee! The Owens Valley Cruizers were very welcoming and there were plenty of conversations and reminiscing. No matter what your opinion of cars is, the one thing unique about them is their ability to unify people. It’s a truly beautiful thing when everything from the 1930’s to 2022 and from America to Japan and the UK can come together and have a great time! I can not stress how important something like this is in today’s hard times and in our small community. It serves as a great reminder that we all have something in common, no matter who we are. A big thank you to the Owens Valley Cruisers for being welcoming, the people all up and down 395 for bringing their cars out, and the people of Bishop for coming out to check them out and share their stories!
