10th Annual Owens River Clean Up Another Successful Day of Beautifying the Owens Valley

The 10th Annual Owens River Clean Up hosted by California Waterfowl Association turned out to be another successful and glorious day of beautifying the Owens Valley. The event held on Saturday, October 26 brought out about eighty volunteers to the Pleasant Valley Campground for a sunny day of working together to clean up around the river and valley.
Volunteers came from near and far. While several Big Pine, Bishop, Crowley, and Mammoth residents showed up, quite a few guests from Southern California made the journey for a weekend of volunteer ecotourism, and fishing or sightseeing. Various casting clubs were in strong attendance including Sierra Pacific Fly Fishers, Aguabonita Fly Fishers, Streamborn Fly Fishers, Sepse Fly Fishers, Hi Desert Fly Fishers, and Pasadena Casting Club. It is wonderful to see guests who frequent the region also take ownership of it. This matters to people.

Before heading out to attack the trash, volunteers socialized over breakfast with various groups in attendance. These groups included Caltrout, Trout Unlimited, California Waterfowl Association, Kern River Conservancy, and Tenkara Tanuki. Event organizer Chris Leonard would like to thank the following for support of the event: Sierra Pacific Fly Fishers, Long Beach Casting Club, Pasadena Casting Club, San Diego Fly Fishers, Fly Fishers Club of Orange County, Sepse Fly Fishers, Trout Unlimited, Caltrout, California Waterfowl Association, Vons Bishop, Friends of the Inyo, Tenkara Tanuki, Preferred Disposal and Septic, Orvis, Redington, Carolyn Webb, Jarett Coons, John Mann, Paymon Rokni, Silver Lakes Resort, Ducks Unlimited, Inyo County, Kittredge Sports, and Los Angeles Department of Water & Power. It takes a village, and without the support of these groups and people to help feed the volunteers and make possible prizes for a free raffle for participants, the event wouldn’t happen.

It’s been ten good years of this great social and clean up event, and the 11th annual clean up will likely happen again in October or November of 2025. Info will be made known when a date is secured.
