Want to Make a Difference in Kids Lives? Volunteer at the Eastside Student Center
Location: United Methodist Center Multipurpose Room, 205 N. Fowler
Volunteer Requirements: Because we work directly with youth, we require all volunteers to be fingerprinted for a background check prior to working with students. We are working with Bishop Unified School District to provide this service free of charge for our volunteers. Please call Marnie Casteel at the Bishop Unified School District Office 760.872.3680 Ext. 8 and let her know that you are interested in volunteering with the afterschool program. The actual fingerprinting will take place at the Inyo County Office of Ed (166 Grandview Dr.). Once you’re cleared, we’ll have a volunteer waiver for you to sign, and you’ll be good to go!
If you have already been fingerprinted by the school district or Inyo County Office of Ed for other volunteer services, please let me know. It’s possible that you won’t have to do it again.
Programs: Currently, because of our limited staff and volunteers, we mostly provide a fairly unstructured place for students to hang out, play games, grab a snack, work on homework, etc. However, we are in the midst of hiring our first paid staff member, and would love to provide some structured programs on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. If there is something you’re interested in teaching, or an activity you’d like to lead, let us know! We have art supplies, books, games, and can purchase other materials if needed for other programs or activities. Students have expressed interest in art, sports, learning new games, drama/acting, and the list goes on.
Thanks so much for your interest in volunteering for the Eastside Student Center! We greatly appreciate it. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Cheers,
Jordan Rose
