Support for CalFresh (SNAP) Recipients in California

Support for CalFresh (SNAP) Recipients in California
October 30, 2025
Due to the federal government shutdown, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that federal funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) – known in California as CalFresh – will not be released for November 2025 benefits.
This pause affects thousands of recipients in the rural communities of California Senate District 4.
October CalFresh benefits remain available and can be used until they expire (up to 12 months from issuance). Local resources, including county social services offices, food banks, and emergency pantries, are available to provide immediate support.
Recipients are encouraged to stretch current benefits, connect with local aid, and stay informed through official channels. Below is some key information to guide those impacted.
New November benefit loads onto EBT cards will be halted starting November 1, 2025, until federal funding resumes.
What You Can Do Immediately:
- Use any remaining October benefits wisely – they roll over and do not expire for a year.
- Apply for emergency food assistance through local pantries (many offer no-questions-asked distributions).
- Report lost or stolen EBT cards immediately at 1-877-328-9677 to protect your balance.
- Monitor updates at BenefitsCal.com or by calling your county office (contacts below at the link below).
Local county offices are ready to assist with applications, referrals, and emergency support.
Reach out to your county social services office for guidance, replacement benefits if eligible, or referrals to food resources.
