Mono County Allocates $200,000 for Tri-Valley Community Improvements; Launches Public Survey 

Residents in Benton, Chalfant, and Hammil are invited to take a brief 3-minute survey to prioritize near-term local projects and shape future capital improvements 

MONO COUNTY, Calif. (August 24, 2026) — The Mono County Board of Supervisors has approved an initial $200,000 allocation to fund recreation and community infrastructure improvements across County facilities in the Tri-Valley area. To ensure funding directly reflects local needs, Mono County is calling on residents in Benton, Chalfant, Hammil, and surrounding communities to share their input through the newly launched Tri-Valley Recreation and Community Infrastructure Survey.

The short survey takes approximately three minutes to complete and will play a critical role in determining priority projects. Feedback will help County leadership identify immediate, near-term projects that can be funded by the initial $200,000 allocation, while also guiding larger long-term projects to be included in the County’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) or pursued through future grant opportunities.

“This $200,000 initial investment represents a direct commitment to enhancing the quality of life for families and residents throughout the Tri-Valley area,” stated Jennifer Kreitz, Chair of the Mono County Board of Supervisors (District 1). “Whether it’s updating community centers, expanding sports courts, or adding park shade structures, we want our investment decisions to be driven by the people who live here. We respectfully ask all Tri-Valley residents to spend three minutes completing this survey to tell us what they value most for their community.” 

Key Focus Areas & Priority Options 

The survey gathers feedback tailored to specific local communities as well as overarching improvement goals for the entire Tri-Valley region:

• Benton Priorities: Community input will help select top priorities such as kitchen upgrades at the Benton Community Center, sports court improvements (including replacing the existing basketball court), and general park upgrades.
• Chalfant Priorities: Residents can weigh in on key facility needs, including playground fall protection, playground shade structures, a concrete walking path around the park, pickleball courts, or a potential new community center.
• Tri-Valley Regional Goals: The survey also asks community members to rate the importance of broader categories, including parks and playgrounds, walking paths and trails, youth recreation, accessibility, public transportation, and community gathering spaces.
