bishop bronco track and field

The BUHS Track & Field team brought 18 athletes to the CIF Division 4 Championships in Caruthers, CA, competing against 33 teams. Our athletes proudly qualified in a wide range of events, including:
Shot Put, Discus, 100m, 200m, 800m, 4×100, 4×400, Long Jump, Triple Jump, and High Jump.

 Meet Highlights:

  • Senior Gabby Veenker ran the fastest 100m of her career and broke the BUHS senior class record (Athletic.net) in the 200m with a time of 28.51.
  • Freshman Hunter Dailey broke his own Freshman Class Record in the Triple Jump, adding over a foot to hit 39’3”, placing him in the Top 11 overall. He was one of only three freshmen to qualify in the event.
  • The Boys 4×100 relay teamMichael Spratt (Jr.), Hunter Dailey (Fr.), Manny Moreno (Sr.), and Nik Calderon (Sr.) — ran a new personal best.
  • The Boys 4×400 teamCaleb Fitt (Jr.), Steven Veenker (Sr.), Ezekiel Lundgren (Fr.), and Nik Calderon (Sr.) — also ran a strong new PR.
  • The Girls 4×400 teamRuby Fisher (Jr.), Dacia Clark (So.), Alyssa Switzer (Sr.), and Clare Haverstock (So.) — dropped a huge PR.
  • Sophomore Dacia Clark medaled and placed 5th in the Girls High Jump, clearing 4’8”.

Standout Performances in Throws:

  • Senior Joseph Lent had a huge day:
    • Threw a 2-foot PR in Shot Put (43’3”), placing 5th and medaling.
    • Took 3rd in Discus, medaling and qualifying for the Masters Meet in Clovis, CA, on Saturday, 5/26/25.
  • Freshman Wyatt Miears placed 7th in Shot Put (42’4.5”) and 7th in Discus (127’).
  • Both Miears and Lent made the finals in Shot Put.
  • In Discus, three BUHS athletesWyatt Miears (Fr.), Joseph Lent (Sr.), and Layton Rossi (Sr.) — advanced to the finals.
  • BUHS had four boys qualify in both Shot Put and Discus:
    • Joseph Lent (Sr.), Layton Rossi (Sr.), Dre Gardner (Sr.), and Wyatt Miears (Fr.).
In over a decade of coaching, I’ve never had a throws group like this. Their work ethic, discipline  made this a truly special group — one we may not see again for a long time.

Fun Moment of the Day:

Only two freshmen qualified for Divisionals in Shot Put — Wyatt Miears (BUHS) and Jerred Guintu (St. Joseph – Santa Maria). In a remarkable twist, both athletes threw the exact same distance — 41’2” — tying for the win in their flight and advancing to the finals. This could be the beginning of an exciting three-year rivalry between two standout young throwers!

As the season wraps up, I couldn’t be prouder of this team. Records were broken, personal bests were crushed, and both our boys and girls went above and beyond expectations. It’s been an absolute honor to coach such a dedicated and hardworking group. Thank you all for your effort, heart, and commitment.

Go Broncos!
— Coach Miears
