Town Council Meeting Items for June 18, 2025

In a Public Hearing, the Town Council will consider adopting a resolution establishing and updating a schedule of fees and charges for Town services for Fiscal Year 2025/26 and consider the approval of the appropriations limit, investment policy, reserve policy, debt policy, and the annual Town budget for Fiscal Year 2025/26.
Policy items include an agreement with the Mammoth Lakes Performing Arts Foundation to administer an endowment to support operations and management of the Performing Arts Facility (MACC), the consideration of the Ordinance adopting the State Fire Hazard Severity Zone maps for the Town of Mammoth Lakes, and an extension to the Lease to Locals program operated under contract with Placemate and the commitment of a maximum $30,000 in additional administrative fees.

Stage I Fire Restrictions begin June 16 on Inyo National Forest

Inyo National Forest will be in  Stage I Fire Restrictions starting Monday, June 16 to protect natural resources and to provide for public safety. Dispersed campfires on the ground will no longer be permitted. However, campfires in designated developed recreation sites and portable stoves still be allowed with a California Campfire Permit. The following acts are prohibited within Inyo National Forest: Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire, including charcoal briquettes except in the Developed Recreation Sites listed in Exhibit A. 36 C.F.R. § 261.52(a). Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, within the Developed Recreation Sites listed in Exhibit A, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material. 36 C.F.R. § 261.52(d). Welding, or operating an acetylene or other torch with an open flame. 36 C.F.R. § 261.52(h)/ Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), some persons are exempt from this Order.

A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.For the official forest order including exhibits, visit the Inyo National Forest  website, https://www.fs.usda.gov/r05/inyo/alerts

Whitmore Pool Opens Saturday for FREE Swim Day!

The  Whitmore Pool opens this Saturday, June 14 from 12:00-4:00pm for a FREE swim day! The very first  Members-Only event in celebration of the full opening of the Whitmore Pool is scheduled from 10am-12pm this Saturday. Members can enjoy some breakfast snacks, fresh tea and coffee, and swimming. The pool will be open exclusively for members with 4 lanes available for lap swimming and a designated area for open swim from 10am. We hope everyone can join us this Saturday to meet our fabulous team of lifeguards, swim instructors and site coordinators and to kick off another amazing summer at the Whitmore Pool!

FREE E-Waste Collection Day this Saturday

Mammoth Disposal is hosting a  FREE E-Waste Collection Day this Saturday (6/14) from 8:00am to 3:00pm at the Transfer Station. All “accepted” materials will be recycled at no charge for all Town of Mammoth Lakes residents.
Accepted items include TV’s, computers/laptops, printers/scanners, phones/tablets, small electronics/appliances, battery operated devices and cords/wires and chargers. Large appliances (microwaves, refrigerators, washing machines, stoves, etc.) will not be accepted.
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) items include oil, antifreeze and paint, batteries, empty propane tanks and lightbulbs. HHW items NOT accepted include any container over five gallons, used gasoline, paint thinners or strippers, radioactive or medical/biohazard waste, unmarked/unidentifiable substances and business hazardous waste.
