Happy Holidays from the Town of Mammoth Lakes!
On behalf of the Mammoth Lakes Town Council, our hard-working employees, and our many devoted volunteers, we wish you and your family a fun and festive holiday season and a prosperous New Year. In celebration of the holiday season, Town offices will be closed December 24, 25, 31, 2024 and January 1, 2025.
Town Council Meeting Action Items for December 18
Town Council approved the plan for the collection of additional Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) from the recently voter approved Measure L. Beginning on or after January 1, 2025, all transactions booked will be subject to an additional 2% TOT rate increase and require staff to provide a tax return to facilitate collection of both tax rates for up to 6 months. For example, the TOT tax rate will be based on the date of the booking, rather than the payment date of the occupant. This action by the Town Council is to ensure a better guest experience and to simplify remittance for business owners.
Town Staff presented the Towns major policies, projects, planning efforts, and workplan items for 2025 as part of the Strategic Planning Series. Town Council invites the community to complete a short survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r

Keep Mammoth Lakes Unreal. Its a Mammoth Thing
In summer 2024, Mammoth Lakes Tourism, in collaboration with the Town of Mammoth Lakes and Mammoth Lakes Recreation, launched a video series Keep Mammoth Lakes Unreal; Its a Mammoth Thing that included 5 videos. The campaign aimed to create a culture of preserving Mammoth Lakes through its content. The series is now continuing with videos for the winter season, including topics like public transportation, proper parking, snow chains, and tips on safe driving. The second video titled Snow Smart Driving uses a friendly tone to highlight important ways to travel safely to and within Mammoth Lakes including: clearing snow from your vehicle, carrying snow chains, checking road conditions, driving cautiously, parking legally and taking public transit whenever possible. Safe and Sustainable Mammoth Disposal tips for the Holidays!
Christmas Tree Disposal: Free for all Town of Mammoth residential account holders. A $5 fee applies for multifamily households or those who reside outside of Mammoth Lakes. Please remove all decorations before dropping off your tree at our Transfer Station (59 Commerce Drive) in the Industrial Park. Trees will be sent to Full Circle Composting Facility in Nevada for eco-friendly processing.
Holiday Gift Wrap: Most wrapping paper cant be recycled, but reusing it is a great option. Consider turning it into confetti, drawer liners, DIY greeting cards, origami, or gift tags to reduce waste.
Christmas Lights = Hazardous E-Waste: Old or broken Christmas lights are hazardous e-waste. Drop them off at the Transfer Station or donate working lights for reuse.
Ashes from Holiday Fires: Always dispose of ashes in designated bins with red lids to prevent fire hazards. Do not place them in regular trash.
Happy Holidays from the team at Mammoth Disposal!
