Local Citizens Organize “No King No Circus Rally and March” in Bishop

As part of a large nationwide mobilization, local pro-democracy, pro-justice and pro-environment organizers in Inyo County have planned a “No King No Circus Rally and March” on Saturday, June 14 in Bishop.
“Our protest is meant to draw attention to the absurd actions of our current government,” Bishop resident and event volunteer leader Karyle Tong explained. “Our republic was founded on the ideals of the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. We march on June 14 in resistance to a king, an authoritarian, and a grifter leading America.”
The local demonstration will be part of more than 1,500 events across the nation, as activists come together for rallies and marches to reject the corrupt, authoritarian politics of the Trump Administration. As organizers of the national effort announced on the website NoKings.org, “This is bigger than politics. They’ve defied our courts, deported citizens, disappeared people off the streets, attacked our civil rights, slashed essential services, and handed billions to their allies. Enough is enough. From city blocks to small towns, from courthouse steps to community parks, we’re taking action to show the world what democracy actually looks like.”
The local “No King No Circus Rally and March” will start at the Bishop City Park on Saturday, June 14 at 9:30AM for brief messages from local leaders then proceed along Main Street. A sign-making party will begin in the park at 9:00AM that morning. For more information, email the event’s local organizers at [email protected].
Nationally, organizations supporting these June 14 protests include Indivisible, the American Federation of Teachers, Declaration for American Democracy, Social Security Works, and Public Citizen. A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events.
