David Edward Southey, affectionately known as Dave, passed away on March 30, 2026, at the age of 84 in Lone Pine, CA, after facing years of health challenges with remarkable strength and resilience.

Throughout his diverse career, he wore many hats, working in road construction, mining, and as a Deputy Sheriff, before eventually finding his true passion in gunsmithing, where his love for firearms truly shone. He was a lifelong enthusiast of guns  and shooting, spending countless hours honing his skills and sharing  his knowledge with others.

He took great joy in fishing and hunting, finding peaceful serenity  in nature. He loved oldies music, Bible study, and staying informed on world news and politics, which fueled many conversations. Above  all, spreading the word of God and gathering with family filled his heart with happiness and pride.

Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Dorene Southey. He leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold him in their hearts: daughters Laura Piper; Alicia Orozco and son-in-law Martin; Abigail Moore and son-in-law Douglas; and son David Southey Jr. and daughter-in-law April. He is also survived by his grandchildren David Winter; Chris Jeffery and wife Natalia; Kelly Piper; Tyler, Miles, and Wyatt Romero; David Southey III; Madeline and Avery Southey; Martin Jr. and Bella Orozco; and Adeline and Delilah Moore; as well as great-grandchildren Amelia and Ava Winter, Madi Benninger, and Arwen Jeffery.

Dave’s legacy will live on through the stories, laughter, and love shared by his family and all who knew him. His steadfast spirit will continue to guide and inspire his family and friends.

Services to honor and celebrate Dave’s life will begin with a viewing on April 23, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brune Mortuary in Bishop, CA. Graveside services will follow on April 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at East Line Cemetery.
