In Memoriam: Allan Bernard George

Allan Bernard George, 86, of Lone Pine, CA passed away peacefully on March 16, 2024. Allan (Al) George was born September 7, 1937 in Stockton, CA. He grew up in Stockton, along with his brother Thomas. After graduating highschool, he joined the US Navy as an Electrician. Then, after the birth of his son Allan T.; he started a new career path. Al graduated from California Highway Patrol Academy, and earned his B.A. in Criminal Justice from University of CA, becoming a police officer. His assignments took him to Tracy, Oakland, and then finally settling in Lone Pine, CA. after the birth of his daughter Kristin.

Al’s 30 year career in law enforcement took him on many exciting adventures while patrolling the highways of Inyo County. One of his proudest moments was in Oct. 1969 when he was involved in the capture of Charles Manson and his followers in the hot desert outside of Lone Pine.

Al and his beautiful wife Cathy together raised four children; Doug, Joanna, Allan, and Kristin. Al participated in many community events, but especially enjoyed playing Santa Claus for the children’s Christmas parties along with Cathy as Mrs. Claus. He enjoyed the Lone Pine area with all its beautiful mountain scenery, and was an avid western movie fan. His favorites were old John Wayne westerns. He even worked with some of the film crews in the Alabama Hills where many movies were filmed, working on the set as security, extras, and was once even in a Ford Superbowl commercial.

Allan is survived by his brother Thomas (Tom) George of San Ramon, CA.

His daughters; Kristin (Doug) Steffey, Mountain Home, ID, Joanna Burkhardt, Lone Pine, CA, son Doug (Raye) Burkhardt, Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

Grandchildren; Lacee, Jakee, Kenneth, Nicole, Miranda, Travis, and Mark.

Great grandchildren; Kane, Lucas, Seth, Kyliee, Aspen, Boston, Kylista, and Kayzlynn.

Niece; Julie, and nephew Gavin George.

Allan is preceded in death by his wife Cathy, his mother Julie, son Allan T.,great grandson Trevan.

Al was a great man and will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Rest in peace “Big Al”, you are now reunited with your “Catherine Marie”.

A Rosary Service will be held at the Santa Rosa Catholic Church, Lone Pine, CA on Friday April 26, 2024 at 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday April 27th at 10am with burial immediately following at Mt. Whitney Cemetery, followed by reception at Santa Rosa Catholic Church Hall.
