High Sierra Energy Foundation & Power Saver Rewards Bring Energy Savings to Eastern Sierra Communities

Mammoth Lakes, CA  |  May 27, 2025: The High Sierra Energy Foundation (HSEF) is pleased to be selected by Energy Upgrade California to promote the Power Saver Rewards program to our Eastern Sierra communities. A repeat partner with Power Saver Rewards, HSEF is excited to continue educating community members about how Southern California Edison ratepayers can benefit from this outstanding program.

On extremely hot days, the California power grid may experience strain between 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. as many people get home from work and perform household tasks. To lessen the strain on the grid, the state may issue a Flex Alert that encourages customers to voluntarily reduce energy use in that timeframe. Customers who are enrolled in the Power Saver Rewards program can earn energy bill credits when they reduce energy use during a Flex Alert from May to October.

To reduce energy use during a Flex Alert, consider these tips:

  • Pre-cool your home before 4:00 p.m., and raise the thermostat to 78 degrees when the Flex Alert begins.
  • Make sure your devices are charged prior to 4:00 pm and unplug any unused devices or small appliances.
  • Run major appliances, like dishwashers or washers and dryers, prior to the Flex Alert or wait until the Flex Alert has concluded after 9:00 pm.

Voluntarily decreasing your energy use during a Flex Alert can earn SCE customers a credit on their energy bill, and more importantly, help protect vulnerable communities. This means neighbors with infants, elderly community members, and people who rely on electricity for medical devices will be less likely to be impacted by a strained power grid.

There is no cost to join Power Saver Rewards, and all Southern California Edison customers in Bishop, Mammoth Lakes, and surrounding communities are eligible to participate. Visit PowerSaverRewards.org to enroll or reach out to HSEF to learn more.
