Fire Near Big Pine

BIG PINE, CA — A vegetation fire has been reported near Glacier Lodge Road, prompting immediate warnings from authorities urging residents and travelers to avoid the area. The incident has mobilized emergency response teams including Caltrans District 9 and the U.S. Forest Service – Inyo National Forest. Currently, it is at two acres but has the potential of being one hundred acres with a power line threat.

Details regarding the size and scope of the fire are still emerging as firefighting crews work to contain and assess the situation. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, though officials are actively investigating the origins. Residents and visitors in the area have been advised to steer clear of Glacier Lodge Road and its immediate surroundings until further notice.

Update: Big Pine Fire EMS requested to the scene for a firefighter who is down.

Update: Fire by Palisades is knocked down. It was in one of the draws about 150 yards from Glacier Lodge Road before you get to Sugar Loaf Road. The cause appears to be a homeless person who had a cooking fire that got out of control.
