Eastern Sierra Book Festival Returns to Mammoth Lakes July 19

The book festival is a one-day celebration of books, writing, reading, and publishing. It is held annually in July at the beautiful Mammoth Museum at Hayden Cabin in Mammoth Lakes, California, on the Eastside of the Sierra Nevada. For our eight-year anniversary, the event will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with new and used books for sale, speakers, vendor booths, book signings, activities, the Author Variety Show, and more! Admission is free, so please join us for a day of musing, perusing, browsing, and some mild carousing!

This year we are featuring a talk by Michael P. Branch and Suzanne Roberts, writing instructors at UN,R and authors in their own right. Their talk is titled, “Laughing Matters: Writing at the Crossroads of Nature and Humor. Michael is the author of the very funny book, On the Trail of the Jackalope, and Suzanne Roberts is a recognized travel writer and winner of the National Outdoor Book Award for her book, Almost Somewhere, Twenty-Eight days on the John Muir Trail. Other speakers include published authors, McKenzie Long (This Contested Land) and Eve Quesnel (Snow Fleas and Chickadees: Everyday Observations in the Sierra), as well as literary agent Gisa Seeholzer and Lianne Downey of Jolibro Publishing.

Local authors are most welcome! Authors also participate for free — we sell their books, promote them and their books, and give them an opportunity to speak to the audience on stage during the Author Variety show about their books or their experiences as an author, sing a song, or whatever summons their muse. Authors can sign up here: https://easternsierrabookfestival.com/authors/

The festival is hosted by the Mammoth Museum at the Hayden Cabin and sponsored by Whistling Rabbit Press and Stellar Brew, Mammoth’s community-oriented coffee shop.
