March 1 Snow Survey Results

ladwp snow survey
LADWP’s snow surveys and Mono Lake staff gauge measurements will show how the historically unpredictable March precipitation nicknamed “Miracle March” will affect spring and summer water runoff and water supply projections for the Los Angeles Aqueduct.

Our hydrographers ventured into the snow again this month to conduct LADWP snow surveys and measurements. Overall the month of February (into March) took the year-type on quite a ride, taking the snowpack from being close to the driest year on record to within the “normal” range (80%-120% of normal April 1 snowpack). The final snowpack measurements will take place on April 1.

As of March 5, 2024

LADWP Eastern Sierra Current Precipitation Conditions reported:

• 18.9” of water content

• 93% of normal to date

•83% normal of a typical water year ending April 1
