Caltrans Completes Pavement Work on U.S. 395 in Inyo County
INYO COUNTY — Caltrans announced today it has completed a project to repair and improve a 13 mile stretch of U.S. 395 in Inyo County. The $5.2 million Northbound Keough Thin Blanket Project is entirely funded by Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.
“SB1 funding enables Caltrans to perform important projects like this and the recent rehabilitation of State Route 14 between Rosamond and Mojave,” noted Caltrans District 9 Director Ryan Dermody.
Work on the project started on October 3, when crews began applying a hot-mix asphalt overlay to the northbound traffic lanes, turn lanes, and shoulder of U.S. 395 between Big Pine and Bishop. This project will extend the life of the highway lanes and is the final maintenance project in Caltrans District 9 to be completed in 2022.
SB 1 provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1. More SB 1-funded maintenance projects are in the works for District 9 in 2023. This includes two pavement projects and a culvert replacement project in Kern County and pavement projects on U.S. 395 and State Route 120 in Mono County.
