Town Council Special Meeting Action Items – April 26, 2023

  • Town Council appointed Dan Polis to the Building Advisory Committee/Board of Appeals, with a term expiring on April 1, 2024.
  • Town Council received an update from Town staff regarding the response and management of the declared local extreme weather emergency.
  • Town Council adopted a resolution declaring its intention to renew the Mammoth Lakes Tourism Business Improvement District (MLTBID) and confirmed the time and place of a public meeting and a public hearing.
    1. May 17, 2023 – Public Meeting and introduction/first reading of the Ordinance (4pm in Suite Z).
    2. June 14, 2023 – Final Public Hearing and second reading/adoption of the Ordinance (4pm in Suite Z).

April 29 Fishing Opener Information 

  • The following waterways are accessible for fishing: Convict Lake, Bridgeport Reservoir, Robinson Creek, Lee Vining Creek, East Walker River, West Walker River and Lower Rock Creek.
  • The Lakes Basin in Mammoth Lakes remains closed for vehicle access. Check the Crowley Lake Fish Camp website for fishing opener updates.

Record Snowpack and Warmer Temperatures Present Dangerous Ice Conditions

  • Mono County Officials are urging residents and visitors to research local conditions, and exercise extreme caution when recreating outdoors as record snowpack coupled with rising temperatures have created hazardous and fragile ice conditions throughout the Eastern Sierra.
  • “We recognize the desire to get out and enjoy the beautiful outdoors as the weather has improved, but the extreme weather conditions we’ve experienced recently have resulted in dangerous conditions on local rivers, streams, and lakes,” said Chris Mokracek, Director of the Mono County Office of Emergency Management.
  • Residents and visitors are advised to avoid ice fishing and urged to exercise extreme caution when recreating on Mono County’s waterways.

Town Rescinds Evacuation Warning for Properties Damaged by Extreme Snowfall

  • The Town of Mammoth Lakes rescinded an Evacuation Warning on April 25, 2023, for properties damaged by excessive snowfall this winter that posed a potential threat to life and property.
  • The Town recommends property owners continue to report structural damage by calling (760) 965-3629 to talk to Town staff and/or complete the online Winter Storm Damage Assessment Form.
  • The Town has posted Winter Snow Management Resources and Propane Safety Information on the homepage under the Quick Links tab.

 

Parks and Recreation Update

  • Summer camp and swim lesson registration is underway with availability in several camps – please contact the Parks and Recreation team at (760) 965-3690 for assistance. Check out the camp flyers on the website for more detailed itineraries and register online.
  • Sierra Classic Theatre presents “Good People” NOW playing at the Edison Theatre from April 27-May 7.  Visit the website for tickets and more information.
