The Broncos won their High Desert League opener 18-13 at Boron Friday night. Bishop opened up a 6-0 lead before falling behind 7-6. Just before the half Milton Michel intercepted a pass and then caught a 39 yard pass from Boden St. Marie putting the Broncos at the 1 yard line. Richie Talavera caught a TD pass from St. Marie putting the Broncos up 12-7 at the half. Boron would rally to take a second half lead, 13-12 in the 4th quarter. With just over 4 minutes to play the Broncos drove 83 yards with Austin Powell scoring the go ahead touchdown with just over 1 minute remaining in the game. The Broncos improve to 5-1 on the season and 1-0 in HDL play. Next up for the Broncos is homecoming with California City. Game is set for a 7pm kickoff. Complete game stats are attached. Players of the game vs. Boron Overall Garin Pritchard Junior Linebacker had a team high 8 solo tackles and 5 assists. Pritchard also had a key tackle for loss. Offense Austin Powell Senior running back had a big game with 165 yards rushing on 20 attempts. Powell accounted for 2 touchdowns on the ground including the game winning score in the final minutes of the game. Defense Nelo Dondero Junior safety had 13 total tackles including 7 solos. Dondero also caused a fumble on Boron’s opening drive. Special teams Blaise Lemons Senior special teams captain did a great job leading the special teams.
