Breaking: Fire in Bishop

Update: 4:30 pm

The Bishop Fire Department reports that the fire is 20% contained, at just over 40 acres, with forward progress stopped.

Update: 3:20 pm

It has been reported but unconfirmed that the fire may have been caused by a bird striking a power line. More updates to follow.

The Bishop Saddle Club is being evacuated.

The fire was not caused by a downed aircraft, but is still under investigation. Vons voluntarily evacuated and is currently closed.

A fire is currently burning just outside Bishop, to the northeast. Inyo County Consolidated Office Building is being evacuated. The cause is unconfirmed but may be due to a helicopter crash. According to a representative from the Bishop Fire Department, the fire is currently at about 5 acres. Updates to follow.
