Be Prepared For Heavy Snow and Strong Winds in Mammoth Lakes This Week

An active weather pattern continues this week with periods of heavy snow and strong gusty winds. The next in a series of winter storms will impact the Eastern Sierra starting today through Wednesday, however, a more significant storm is forecast for Thursday into Friday, with heavy snow, strong winds and colder conditions.

US National Weather Service Reno Nevada has posted a Winter Storm Warning in effect from 10pm this evening (2/3) through 10am, Wednesday, February 5, 2025. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 feet above 8,000 feet is forecast for the Sierra crest, with 8-12” in the Town of Mammoth Lakes. Winds may gust as high as 85 mph along the highest peaks and up to 50 mph near wind prone areas along HWY 395.

In the interest of public safety, the  Mammoth Lakes Police Department will close the Scenic Loop and the Sherwin Trailhead gate by 10am today, Monday (2/3). The top of Davison Road will remain closed for the remainder of the week, pending weather conditions.
