Every patch of protected land serves a purpose

Greetings!

April is well underway, and so are the migrating birds. About 385,000 birds crossed into Inyo County last night. Each sunset makes me think of the birds who begin to migrate, about 30 to 45 minutes after sunset.

They are on an incredible journey, where every patch of protected land matters. Take Black Lake Preserve, for example, which becomes an ecological lifeline for birds during migration season.

Gena Wood, Community Connections Program Director at ESLT, wrote an educational article about Black Lake Preserve, which I recommend reading.

At Eastern Sierra Land Trust, we believe that every corridor, wetland, and patch of ESLT-protected land has a purpose.

Every patch of land is a home to wildlife, people, and entire communities. As ESLT celebrates 25 years and nearly 24,000 acres of protected lands, I am reminded of all of you, who are part of that shared success.

Will you help shape the next 25 years of conservation in the Eastern Sierra by giving to Eastern Sierra Land Trust today?

At Black Lake Preserve in Adobe Valley, California, migration is on full display.

Black Lake, like Mono Lake and other saline bodies of water, has a scenic beauty that draws people from all over the world. The lake is also an ecological lifeline for migratory species, such as the Eared Grebe.
