Panorama Dome Area Closed for Fuels Reduction Efforts

Good snow coverage means conditions are ideal to continue fuels reduction efforts in the Mammoth Lakes area, and on January 20, the U.S. Forest Service – Inyo National Forest began pile burning in two locations. The first is approximately 2 acres along Lake Mary Road, near Camp High Sierra and the second is 48 acres on Panorama Dome. To safely perform pile burning operations in these locations, from now until February 18, the public is prohibited from entering the Panorama Project Area Closure shown on the map. [https://www.facebook.com/townofmammothlakes/posts/pfbid02pancKg4FimAxKcrUrze53RUnQVFGfwADxYPi8MrNGZvdCqzRmNkYoSTE81U3z8GCl] This area is very dense in fuels with many piles to burn, and the agency wants to ensure that no member of the public gets injured during these operations. A violation of the closure could result in fines or imprisonment. Smoke will be visible from Mammoth Lakes, Highway 395, Highway 203, and Mammoth Mountain Ski Area. Please be patient during this time while our partners do their work. Ultimately, fuels reduction projects like these make our forest healthier and our community safer.
