100 Women Who Care Eastern Sierra Awards $10,000 Collective Gift to Indigenous Wild Horse Society

MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif. — The power of collective giving was on full display as 100 Women Who Care Eastern Sierra awarded a $10,000 donation to the Indigenous Wild Horse Society, demonstrating how local women can make an immediate and meaningful impact in their communities.
The Indigenous Wild Horse Society was selected by the membership during the organization’s quarterly giving meeting. The nonprofit is dedicated to honoring and protecting the sacred relationship between Indigenous people, wild horses, and the land through education, conservation, and community engagement. Based in the Eastern Sierra, the organization works to preserve wild horse family bands while celebrating the deep cultural connections they represent.
The $10,000 gift was made possible through the collective generosity of the group’s members, each contributing to create one significant donation with immediate impact.
“This is exactly why 100 Women Who Care Eastern Sierra exists,” said Darlene Schuetz, Founding Chair of 100 Women Who Care Eastern Sierra. “When women come together with a shared commitment to giving, we can make a transformational difference for organizations doing important work in our region.”
The donation will help advance the Indigenous Wild Horse Society’s efforts to protect free-roaming wild horses, educate the public about their cultural and ecological significance, and strengthen stewardship of the lands they inhabit. A portion of the funding may also be used to provide specialized training in the use of dart-administered contraceptives, a humane, science-based population management tool that helps protect the health of wild horse herds while reducing the need for more invasive management practices.
100 Women Who Care Eastern Sierra is a volunteer-driven giving circle whose members meet quarterly to hear presentations from three local nonprofits. Members vote, and the selected organization receives the group’s collective donations, providing immediate funding where it is needed most. Since its founding, the organization has awarded tens of thousands of dollars to nonprofits serving Mono and Inyo counties.
