As I drive South along the US 395, working my way from Bridgeport to Bishop, I’m always awestruck. Healthy meadows with abundant native species catch my eye, as do the working ranches where people operate multigenerational, family-run operations. Then, of course, there are the Sierra Nevada mountains on the right, and White Mountains on the left. It’s iconic.

Hot Off the Press: US 395 is a stunning mountain highway. It’s also one of the deadliest for California wildlife.

The US 395 is an iconic highway through the stunning Eastern Sierra. Wildlife like mule deer navigate around the highway as best they can, yet are still vulnerable and many die each year in collisions with traffic. It’s not just mule deer either.
To rectify the danger of car-wildlife collisions for both parties, there are exciting plans to to build wildlife crossings on US 395.
