Work Continues to Reopen Independence Library
In the wake of complaints made to the Division of Occupational Safety and Health (better known as Cal/OSHA) regarding conditions at the Central Branch (Independence) of the Inyo County Free Library, Inyo County undertook immediate efforts to address identified critical health and safety issues in order to better protect staff and our constituents. This, unfortunately, required the Central Branch to be temporarily closed. At this time there is no set date for reopening, but the County intends to re-open the Central Branch as soon as reasonably possible after library operations are brought into compliance with health and safety guidelines as well as today’s standards of public library access and service.
The County understands the importance of all Inyo County Free Library branches being open and operational. As part of the County’s efforts, the County engaged with a professional library consultant to explore temporary, alternative options for library patrons as safety and operational issues are remedied. More details will be provided as soon as they are available. The public’s patience is appreciated.
