Our Giving Tuesday Campaign is “For the Birds” – As in for the Bi-State Sage-Grouse!

To highlight some program needs, we would like to refer you to the photo composition above:
- In the bottom left photo (courtesy of the US Geological Survey), you can see a female sage-grouse fitted with a GPS collar. These monitoring collars cost approx. $2,000 each and are crucial for better understanding what habitat the birds are using and how they are using it, as sage-grouse require large areas of healthy, intact habitat to meet their annual and seasonal resource needs.
- In the bottom right photo (by Thomas Torres, US Forest Service), a biologist uses high-magnification spotting scopes to help spot birds from up to 800 yards away. One such scope was instrumental in discovering a new sage-grouse breeding ground last year. These scopes run between $4,000 and $5,000 apiece.
- In the top right photo (by Bob Wick, Bureau of Land Management), the male sage-grouse impresses potential mates (and us!) with his majestic plumage and posturing. This is an example of the beautiful wildlife emblematic of the Eastern Sierra and Great Basin that we are working hard to protect.
Sierra Forever’s ongoing partnership with EarthGives.org, which is exclusively focused on helping conservation nonprofits meet their needs while giving back toward the health of our environment, makes it easy for our supporters to donate.
