Winter Storm Warning for Mammoth Lakes in Effect from Tuesday Night Through Friday Morning

Good afternoon,

US National Weather Service Reno Nevada [https://www.weather.gov/rev/] has posted a Winter Storm Warning for Mammoth Lakes in effect from 10pm, tonight (12/23) through 10am, Friday (12/26).

Weather Forecast

A pair of storms will impact the area Christmas Eve and Christmas Day bringing periods of heavy mountain snow and gusty winds. Significant snow is forecast with up to 4 to 5 feet above 8,000 feet and approximately 1 to 3 feet in the Town of Mammoth Lakes and along US HWY 395. Winds could gust as high as 100 mph over the ridges and up to 60 mph at lower elevations. Travel could be very difficult to impossible at times along with strong winds reducing visibility and driving conditions.

Planned Road/Park Closures

Davison Road, Mammoth Lakes Police Department will close the upper gate late this evening (12/23).

Scenic Loop, is closed for the duration of the storm.

Community Dog Park, the entrance to the parking lot will be closed at midnight on Wednesday (12/24) for the duration of the storm.

Whitmore Recreation Area, will be closed on Wednesday morning (12/24) for the duration of the storm and will be evaluated after the storm by Town staff for public use.

Sherwin Creek Road, The Forest Service will monitor and manage Sherwin Creek Road. The Town is not authorized to plow the road. Accessing Sherwin Creek Road during the storm is not advisable.

Restrooms, Trails End Park and Mammoth Creek Park restrooms will be closed at midnight on Wednesday (12/24)
