Join us for Whitney Alley Preferred Conceptual Plans Presentation

Your insights have been instrumental in shaping this endeavor. In response to constructive feedback, we have refined the proposed plans to align with the collective vision for enhancing our community spaces.
Here are the key areas we focused on:
- Phased approach: The initial phase, funded by the Prop 68 Grant, includes repaving the alley, improving irrigation systems, and introducing green elements, bioswales, and public parking signage. Supplementary funds would enable us to develop the pocket park at 262 North Main Street, with lighting, art, seating, waste disposal, bike racks, and fencing.
- Parking: The proposals aim to minimize the impact on available parking spaces. The city will increase parking enforcement efforts.
- Circulation: Whitney Alley provides crucial access to adjacent private parking lots. To reduce regular vehicular traffic, the alley from Line Street to 136 Whitney Alley will be open for delivery trucks and emergency vehicles only, pushing other traffic to the parking lots.
- Maintenance: Our Parks department is exploring two options for optimal upkeep: outsourcing maintenance to independent contractors or hiring additional Parks staff.
We’re finalizing the preferred conceptual plans (see the link on the website page), and your feedback on specific design elements will be integrated during the construction documents phase. The final conceptual plan will be presented at the City Council Meeting on August 28th at 6 pm.
