State Route 127 Pavement Project to Start on Monday
INYO COUNTY – Work is scheduled to begin Monday, April 3, on the State Route 127 Pavement Project at two locations on State Route 127 in eastern Inyo County:
· From postmile 21, approximately 7 miles north of the town of Shoshone, to postmile 34.5, approximately 7 miles south of Death Valley Junction
· From Death Valley Junction to the Nevada State Line to the north
This construction project will rehabilitate the pavement by grinding down the roadway and overlaying asphalt, which will restore the pavement to a good service condition and extend the service life of the highway. Existing traffic signs will be upgraded to current state standards and specifications.
Hat Creek Construction was awarded the $15.41 million contract for this project. During the project’s 110 working days, there will be one-way traffic control with a pilot car Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm, and on Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Drivers may experience 20-minute delays.
Senate Bill (SB) 1 is providing $2,201,109.20 in funding toward the State Route 127 Pavement Project, including $1,951,300 for the construction phase. SB 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1. In addition to SB 1 funding, the California Transportation Commission allocated $20,018,000 in funding for the construction phase of this project by the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) of 2021. Under IIJA, California will receive an estimated $41.9 billion over 5 years. IIJA provides significant funding to Caltrans to improve roadways, bridges, freight projects, public transportation, and safety, and to address climate change. Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.
